Fire Ants Found at Gwangyang Port

On October 26, around 100 tropical ants were discovered inside a container at Gwangyang Port, South Jeolla Province.

What happened?

The tropical fire ants are suspected to have come from a ship from Jakarta, Indonesia. The port authorities immediately alerted the officials and exterminators were called in to handle the situation.

Ants exterminated:

The exterminators began spraying around the area to exterminate the ants and gradually all the ants were killed.

The incident comes less than a month after a similar species of fire ant was found in Gamman Port in Busan Harbor.
