On 9th November 2017, fire erupted reportedly aboard a cargo vessel “MV BELLE” that was moored at Good Success, Wakenaam Island in Essequibo River. Fire chief reportedly told that fire fighters were dispatched to inspect the fire scene aboard the Vessel.

Initial reports suggest that the fire occurred in the engine room where workers were carrying out repairs and maintenance. “They were carrying out maintenance. The internal part of the vessel is damaged,” a well-placed police source added.

There were no reports of injuries due to the fire that began at about 10:55 AM.

Guyana’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) reportedly told that it has launched an investigation into the blaze aboard the St. Vincent and the Grenadines-registered vessel.
