International Maritime Organisation (IMO) will find its new Secretary General today.

IMO has confirmed the names of six nominees from Cyprus, Denmark, Kenya, Philippines, Russia and South Korea.  The winner will serve a four-year term as the Secretary General of IMO.  The IMO is the single most important rule-maker in shipping and its secretary-general has a critical role in taking the organisation forward keeping it a modern, relevant and productive organisation. One of these six candidates will replace Koji Sekimizu of Japan.  There are totally 40 member states in IMO.  Candidate receiving 21 or more votes will be declared as the 8th Secretary General of IMO.
