Libya’s state General National Maritime Transport Company (GNMTC) announced Thursday that it had acquired a new modern oil tanker, GHAT, says an article published in LibyaHerald.

High quality standard

The tanker was finished in May 2022 at the shipbuilding docks of the Korean company DEHAN SHIPBUILDING, where it was designed to meet the highest quality standards and requirements of the OCIMF coalition of major oil companies, as well as all requirements and conditions applicable in the international shipping market, according to the GNMTC.

Strategic plan

The purchase is part of the GNMTC’s strategic goal to update and develop its fleet between 2020 and 2023.

The acquisition of the new tankers Ibn Hawqal, Fezzan, Anwar Benghazi, and Anwar Tripoli was the initial step of the plan.

The GNMTC announced that with the addition of the tanker GHAT, it has completed the second phase of its fleet development and modernisation strategy.
