On July 15, a French fishing vessel collided with a LPG tanker “Waasmunster”, loaded with 18000 tons of butane, that was anchored on Le Havre anchorage.  The tanker suffered a hull breach below waterline with ensuing water ingress.

Salvage teams by 8:30 along with mine divers of the French Navy were airlifted aboard the “Waasmunster” and started an investigation of the ship’s hull.  The team found a 50×70 cm sized hole below the water line.

Divers stopped the water ingress by placing magnetic sealing plates on the hole.  After couple of hours of pumping the water out, the ship lifted anchor and reached the port of Le Havre.

All 25 crew of the tanker were safe and the tanker is reported to be out of danger.

The fishing vessel “GROS LOULOU” suffered bow damage from the incident, reported water ingress at 0700 but not critical.  Rescue team pumped the water out and the vessel safely reached the port and docked at Port-en-Bessin.
