Norbulk Shipping Fined for violations

Reefer Murcia Carrier, managed by Glasgow-based Norbulk , has been fined  $750,000 plus three years probation by the US authorities for not maintaining  proper oil record book.

Its reported that ship’s crew, under the direction of an officer, dumped several barrels of hydraulic oil overboard in April last year, a charge they deny.

“While Norbulk and Georgiev [the chief mate] dispute the number of barrels dumped into the sea, the government believes that about 20 barrels were dumped overboard,” the US Department of Justice was quoted as saying.

“The dumping occurred in international waters off the coast of Florida … [it] was not recorded in either the ship’s oil record book or garbage record book as required.”
