NYK Orders Luxury Ship from Meyer Werft

2017

Japanese NYK Cruises orders LNG powered cruise ship from German Shipbuilder Meyer Werft, says an article published in Offshore.

First order since the pandemic

The order is said to be significant because no shipping company has placed a new building order for a cruise ship since the beginning of the pandemic, according to Meyer Werft.

Dimensions

It will have a length of 228.86 meters, a width of 29.8 meters, and will be able to accommodate up to 744 passengers and up to 470 crew members. The new building for NYK Cruises is scheduled for delivery in 2025.

Customized solutions

Meyer Werft will install LNG propulsion onboard the vessel. The builder is also implementing numerous customized solutions for the new order. These include hydrodynamics optimized in accordance with the planned routes as well as onboard facilities adapted to the needs of Japanese passengers and, as a result of the pandemic, also offering innovations to the air-conditioning systems and contactless controls.

Comments of MD on new building order, It is another very important step towards securing the Papenburg site. New orders are absolutely necessary for our current program for the future with enormously important savings and very many different measures,” Jan Meyer commented.
