Oceanwide Expeditions Cuts Steel for its New Polar Vessel

Croatia’s Brodosplit shipyard started cutting steel for Oceanwide Expeditions’ new Polar Class 6 ship Janssonius, reports Marinelink.

Identical to Hondius

The design, size and 174-passenger capacity is the same as Hondius, delivered in 2019. the new ship will be equivalent to a 1A super ice-class ship, the line said.

Completely on schedule, the Steel Cutting Ceremony took place in Split’s Brodosplit shipyard, which marks the beginning of the construction of the vessel., it said.

The new polar vessel will be cruising the crystalline waters of the polar regions, delivering dozens of wildlife-loving and adventure-seeking passengers to the most iconic locations in the Arctic and Antarctica.

Maiden voyage

Janssonius´ completion is scheduled for 2021, with the first planned voyage to South Georgia setting sail on November 5.

The first trip planned for Janssonius will be a spectacular voyage to South Georgia, departing on 05 November 2021.
