Oil Tanker Hit by U.S. Sanctions

A Russian-flagged vessel is headed to Malaysia under U.S. sanctions, according to shipping data. This comes amid increasing international scrutiny of businesses connected to Moscow after the invasion of Ukraine, reports Streets Register.

The investigation

According to MarineTraffic.com, Linda, a U.S. Treasury document that outlines sanctions against Russia’s, was traveling in the Indian Ocean. It was due to arrive at Sungai Linggi on Malaysia’s West Coast on Sunday.

Malaysian authorities did not yet indicate whether they would allow the vessel to dock. The foreign ministry and the marine department did not respond immediately to inquiries for comment.

According to USA, Linda belongs to PSB Leasing. It is a division of Russian lender Promsvyazbank that has also been affected by international sanctions.

Ownership

French authorities seized the Baltic Leader ship that was claimed to be owned by PSB Leasing on Saturday

Promsvyazbank denied its subsidiary ownership of the vessel and said it was purchased by another entity prior to the imposition of sanctions.
