Mitsui O.S.K. Lines is awarded the vessel speed reduction and green flag award for their achievement on extraordinary compliance percentages in the area of speed reduction.
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines received the vessel speed reduction award for their compliance with standards of slowing down the vessel within 40 nautical miles (nm) of the shore. This recognition comes from the port of Los Angeles, who has introduced an award for vessel speed reduction program.
Besides the line also received the green flag award, which expects the vessel operators to slow down to 12 knots or less within a certain range of the port. This recognition has been introduced by the port of Long Beach. The exercise results in the reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxide (NOx) and sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions in coastal areas. These efforts can be beneficial in conserving the coastal environment.
The ports have appreciated the company’s determination towards environmental conservation and proactive efforts on global scale. A total of 250 vessels of MOL Group including car carriers, tankers and bulkers traverse through the area within the stipulated speed standards.
