SEA-LNG Welcomes Titan LNG as its Member

Titan LNG, a Dutch independent LNG supplier, has joined SEA-LNG, a multi-sector industry coalition aimed at demonstrating LNG’s viability as a marine fuel, says an article published on Offshore Energy.

Zero GHG emission

In a joint statement, SEA-LNG and Titan stated they can help the maritime sector decarbonize faster by advocating for LNG, bio and synthetic LNG.

According to SEA-LNG, LNG provides a path to net-zero GHG emissions by decarbonizing existing assets including fuel production, transportation, storage, and bunkering infrastructure.

Cutting-edge of LNG

Steve Esau, COO at SEA-LNG, said: “Titan has a strong track record of being at the cutting-edge of LNG as a marine fuel and, at the moment, this particularly involves scaling up the production of bioLNG. Its expertise fits in seamlessly with ours and those of our members.”

Real benefits to business

Michael Schaap from Titan LNG added: “Scaling up production is a key challenge for all alternative marine fuels. Therefore, it’s important to share knowledge and expertise. SEA-LNG has a strong network of industry experts and plays a critical role in outlining the benefits of LNG to the market and supporting innovation by facilitating collaboration. As Titan continues to expand the supply of bioLNG, despite challenging market conditions, we anticipate membership of SEA-LNG will bring real benefits to the business and our customers.”

Exclusive long-term contract

Titan just launched a 2,400 tonne per year bioLNG manufacturing project with partners. The EU has financed the project, which will be operational in 2023.

Titan then agreed to a long-term exclusive contract to be the project off-taker and provide bioLNG to the maritime industry.

Blending of synthetic and traditional LNG

The implications of bioLNG on vessel compliance under the IMO’s Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) system were recently investigated by SEA-LNG.

According to the analysis, LNG will allow ships to complete their CII obligations until 2030, after which they will gain two years of additional compliance for every 10% increase in bioLNG or renewable synthetic LNG blended with regular LNG.
