Seafarer Died Inside a Fresh Water Tank in an Attempt to Save a Tanker!

According to the reports, the engine room of the vessel suffered with water ingress in Indonesian waters of the Malacca Strait and subsequently sank.  A 26-year-old crew member tried to drain the ship’s fresh water tank.  Unfortunately, he drowned.  The Other crew members who went in search of the victim found him at the bottom of the tank, lifeless.

As the crew was unable to plug the leak, the distress alarm was raised.  According to the Indonesian Coast Guard, as soon as the 6,703 dwt vessel sounded its emergency alarm the rescue crews were sent to the scene.  Twenty-six crew members onboard the vessel were evacuated.

Authorities are conducting investigations to know the root cause of the incident.  Also, salvors have been appointed to look at the wreck.
