Ship Suffered Hull Breach, Water Ingress

A Fast ferry ran aground on Espalmador islet coast on Oct 6 and all passengers were evacuated, reports Maritime Bulletin. 

What happened?

Fast ferry ECO LUX, connecting Ibiza and Savina ports, Balearic islands, ran aground on Espalmador islet coast at around 2000 UTC Oct 6, while en route from Ibiza to Savina. 

Hull was breached, with ensuing water ingress. 

Passengers evacuated

  • 12 passengers and 5 crew were evacuated and sent to Savina port by an inflatable rigid boat.
  • The boat was provided by ferry operator, BALEARIA.
  • All people were reported safe. 

Any danger reported?

The ferry is reported to be aground and no danger of sinking. AIS remained on as of morning Oct 7.
