Harwich International Port – Border Police, during their routine check on Thursday, discovered 68 immigrants inside a shipping container. The container was shipped through a Stena Line ferry from Hook of Holland says the BBC report.
The multi-nationality group, huddled inside, had two pregnant women and five others complaining of abdominal and chest pains. They were later sent to a Colchester General Hospital for treatment. The remaining immigrants were handed over to the UK Border Agency.
The incident raised concerns that the case might be a sign of new trend being pursued by human traffickers that involved putting humans in shipping containers as it has proved a good way of avoiding security checks.
