Statoil Discovers Oil Spill At North Sea

Cause for the Spill: A leak in the loading hose

On Tuesday, around 8.30 am, the Norwegian Oil Major Statoil observed oil spill near the loading buoy at the Statfjord offshore oil field in the North Sea.  The tanker Hilda Knutsen was loading oil via the OLS B loading buoy situated between the Statfjord A and Statfjord B platforms.  The oil leak was found in a flange in the loading hose.

Approximately 250 barrels of the oil spill was assessed in the preliminary stage.  A SAR helicopter is assisting in monitoring the oil spill along with A standby vessel with oil spill response equipment and an anchor handling tug, equipped with a ROV.
