On January 21, a supply ship started to heel and subsequently developed a list in the bay of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno.

What happened?

The supply vessel ‘Baltic Betina’ which services the area around Galapagos islands reportedly started to heel and reportedly developed a list in the vicinity of San Cristobal Island in the bay of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno.

Emergency declared

As soon as the vessel started to heel and develop a list a state of emergency was notified and corresponding authorities were notified about the incident. With the help of the port rescue team and crew members the vessel regained its stability and was able to stand on its own power.

It is further being inspected for any damages and will allowed to sail after further repairs are carried out.

Recently, in November 2017 the ship had suffered damages to its crane, which prevented it from sailing from Guayaquil to Galapagos with merchandise goods.
