Vard Electro has successfully delivered integrated SeaQ Communication solutions for the two advanced Construction Service Operation Vessels, Olympic Boreas and Olympic Notos, that are under construction at Norway’s Ulstein Verft shipyard. For Olympic, these vessels mark the firm’s most important success so far in offshore energy sector projects, reports VARD.

Expertise in System Delivery and Integration

Fredrik Løken, Project Manager at Vard Electro, highlighted the importance of having a comprehensive understanding of system delivery to overcome integration challenges and ensure efficient execution of new building projects. He said, “The ability to see the bigger picture of such a system delivery is essential to overcome potential obstacles in the integration process and ensure efficient execution of a new building project.”

He further emphasized the advantages of being part of the Vard shipbuilding group: “As such, we have benefited from being part of the Vard shipbuilding group as this has given us broad experience and strong expertise in installation and integration of diverse SeaQ systems delivered for scores of newbuilding projects. This means we understand the challenges as both a product supplier and system installer so we can provide a seamless implementation.”

Supporting Sustainability in Offshore Operations

The SeaQ Communication solutions delivered for these CSOVs are a testament to the sustainability commitment of Vard Electro. The Olympic Boreas and Olympic Notos are the first CSOVs that will be equipped with Ulstein’s innovative TWIN X-STERN® solution. This design features four main propellers, both forward and aft, which optimize thruster power for dynamic positioning. With hybrid diesel-electric propulsion, battery storage, and smart energy management, the vessels achieve a reduction in fuel consumption of almost 50%, according to Olympic.

Enhancing Operational Efficiency

The green profile of these vessels is further supported by the SeaQ Communication package, which offers robust information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure. It is designed to enhance safety, improve operational efficiency, and increase crew comfort during extended periods at sea, thereby contributing to the overall sustainability and performance of the vessels in the offshore energy sector.
