[Watch] Aframax Tanker Disabled After Engine Room Fire

Aframax tanker disabled by fire in the engine room and crew partially evacuated, reports Maritime Bulletin.

What happened?

Fire erupted in the engine room of Aframax crude oil tanker MARQUESSA in the morning Dec 8. The tanker was some 17 nm east of Orchid island, southern Taiwan when the incident happened. 

Distress call

Tanker reported fire and sent a distress call at 1030 LT (UTC +8). She was disabled and adrift. 

Crew evacuated

According to reports, 8 non-essential crew out of total 24 were evacuated while the remaining 16 crew took fire under control, and were waiting for tug. 

About the vessel

MARQUESSA was ballasting from Laizhou China to Singapore.
