ZIM and Alibaba Team Up for Sea Freight Services

Israeli container line ZIM has entered into a strategic cooperation with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba.com providing sea freight services, reads a press release from ZIM.

Strategic cooperation agreement

ZIM said it had entered into a broad strategic cooperation agreement with Alibaba.com under which the Chinese e-commerce platform’s customers could directly purchase sea freight. The two companies are evaluating options to expand their cooperation.

Digital services for e-commerce customers

Eli Glickman, ZIM president & CEO said, “We are proud of this first cooperation with Alibaba.com, which is part and parcel of our innovative strategic vision. We see it as a great opportunity and a mutually beneficial arrangement leading to top-level customer service.”

He added, “It is an important step for ZIM, expanding digital services for e-commerce customers as well as small and medium enterprises.”

Support for global digital trade

Kuo Zhang, General Manager of Alibaba.com, further said, “The strategic cooperation between ZIM and Alibaba.com will provide customers with stable, efficient and visible cross-border supply chain solutions, and provide strong support for the explosive growth of the global digital trade.”

ZIM has been actively targeting the e-commerce sector and earlier this year launched a direct service connecting South China ports and Los Angeles.
