Reports indicate that Shanghai Maritime Court has auctioned off over the web, the 1997-built aframax tanker Amba Bhakti on Taobao.
Varun Shipping reportedly abandoned the vessel and it got detained by the court since 2016 at the request the ship’s crew, towards unpaid salaries and by the creditor China Shipping Industry, towards a ship maintenance contract dispute.
Auction files reports that an individual by name Chen Yongkang has acquired the vessel by offering the highest bid of RMB38.62m ($6.09m).
Shanghai Maritime Court said the crew of the ship will have priority to get payment from the proceeds of the sale.
