Denmark Maersk Receives Advanced Subsea Vessel

China’s Dalian Zhongyuan Shipping Engineering Co handed over its first self-developed deep-sea engineered vessel to Denmark’s Maersk Line at Dalian, Northeast China’s Liaoning Province on Monday, a sign of China’s advanced marine manufacturing ability and the growing reputation it enjoys around the world.

The vessel, named MaerskInstaller, is considered the most advanced engineered vessel in the world. It is 137.6 meters long, 27 meters wide and 11 meters deep. It can carry 120 people and has a displacement of 9,788 tons. Its deck area is 1,850 square meters, People.cn reported on Monday.

It only takes 90 seconds for the ship to complete a 180 degree turn, and is able to return to port even when the vessel has suffered a breakdown.

Both its performance index and technical difficulty have reached the advanced levels seen in other similar vessels around the world, according to the report.

It can perform a series of subsea tasks under tough conditions, including subsea installation and maintenance of engineering modules, the laying of submarine cables, and fire rescues at sea.

The multi-functional vessel has excellent sea keeping and control abilities. Its electrical system is supported by six diesel electric generators, and it can reach a navigational speed of 15.2 knots.

The above features can guarantee that the vessel is able to continue to work and protect its undersea equipment even if an engine room is damaged.

The vessel deploys an automatic controlling frequency conversion system for its compressor, water pump, draught fan and fuel pump, which is energy and environmentally friendly.

The design of the 120-cell vessel meets comfort standards set by Lloyd’s Register, Det Noeske Veritas, and the Danish Maritime Authority.
