Docked Reefer On Fire In Ecuador

Location:  Guayaquil dock, Ecuador

The cargo holds of the reefer ship caught fire where inflamed fuel gasses extended the fire to fuel tanks.  The crew immediately made an emergency call to the port authorities.  Three tugs and 120 firefighters were dispatched.  They succeeded to control the fire after 3 hours

In order to prevent a new fire starting up, the firefighters continued to pour water over the burning cargo ship.  The investigation for the root cause of the fire is underway.

The reports state that there were no casualties nor pollution a the accident site.

The reefer ship is docked for repair purposes since October 2015.  The ship was listed for sale, but still not find new operator in difficult maritime transport years.
