Match Shippers with Shipping Companies

2011

Weathernews Inc., headquartered in Chiba, Japan and Mitsui & Co. headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, have decided to form a joint venture company named Maru Freight Inc., which will provide a maritime service using ICT to find the best shipping method for a matching cargo.

The cake:

The venture company began its journey on January 8, although its official service start only in July 2018, and an opening ceremony was held on January 9.

Maru Freight combines the weather and maritime data analysis technology of Weathernews along with the expertise of Mitsui in ICT.

It predicts the best match between cargoes and vessels in the tramper market, which needs an improved efficiency in the utilization of IoT and Big Data in the International Maritime Logistics.

In addition, this will assist cargo owners to upgrade their present supply chain management (SCM) using this one-stop service solution from Maru Frieght.

How did this happen?

In recent years, a number of companies have emerged to provide a solution for matching the supply to the demand that is available in the diverse means of transportation.

Until now, more time and effort is taken to make arrangements between shippers and tramper services in the maritime transportation industry. In return, we want to meet the needs of both shippers and shipping companies with a simple and efficient matching procedure. These considerations were the prime agenda for this new company, Maru Frieght to take its inception into the market.

SCM upgrade

Maru Freight’s powerful matching platform service to combine and share data provides transparency and fairness in the marketplace.

For cargo owners it not only makes it easier to charter a vessel to carry their cargo, but will also provide service to upgrade their SCM.

The shipping companies can reduce their air freight, as it will assist more in strategic fleet allocation and planning, to increase efficiency of vessel operations.

When is it available?

The service is scheduled for launch in July 2018 with a plan to initially focus on developing the European and U.S. markets, and subsequently expanding in stages to create a global business.
