The Inter-islander Ferry is trying out the FOE (Fuel Oil Emulsion) Technology on one of its Auxiliary Engines. The Fuel oil is coated with Water and the same is to be injected as fuel into the engines. It is believed that with the FOE technology – the water droplets form steam and thus results in efficient combustion of small fuel particles. It is well known that water and oil does not mix readily, whereas in this case – an additive is used to blend the same. It is expected that a considerable fuel saving is achieved with reduced emissions.
