IMB Piracy Reporting Centre says seven robbers boarded vessel off Conakry, Guinea, and made off with crew’s cash and property.

Two crew members were taken hostage and beaten by pirates who boarded a bulker off the coast of West Africa, the International Maritime Bureau (IMB) said.

The International Chamber of Commerce arm said seven robbers armed with guns and knives boarded the ship today while it was off Conakry, Guinea.

The pirates then escaped with cash and other properties belonging to crew members.

The ship was not named in the Piracy Reporting Centre alert.

The incident is the second for Guinea’s coast this year, but the IMB identifies the waters off Conakry as a “piracy prone area”.  Worldwide, the bureau has reported 126 incidents so far in 2016.
