Product Tankers Collide In The Arctic

The two small clean product tankers involved in a collision when they proceeded in an ice convoy through the Northern Sea route.  Svyatoy Petr was en route from Arkhangelsk to Kotelny Island while Svyatoy Pavel departed from Murmansk to Pevek in northeast Siberia.  The two vessels were following the nuclear icebreaker Vaygach when they involved in the collision.

The report says that the Svyatoy Petr had 20 metres of damage along its bulwark on the portside stern while Svyatoy Pavel‘s starboard bow suffered a five-metre-long crack, between 20 to 50 centimetres wide, located around four metres above the waterline.

Svyatoy Petr left the accident site while the other vessel was towed to Temp Bay.
