Tanker Grounding, River Thames

On August 16, a product tanker reportedly ran aground on the banks of river Thames.

What happened?

On the evening of August 16, the product tanker ‘Arsland’ reportedly ran aground on River Thames, United Kingdom.

The grounding incident occurred while the tanker was proceeding downstream from South Stifford to Hamburg, situated along the river Thames.

Tanker refloated:

A distress call was placed and within an hour the officials dispatched rescue tugs. Subsequently, the vessel was refloated with the help of Svitzer tugs and towed to Tilbury for further inspection and repairs.

No damages:

The vessel did not suffer any major damages and no one was injured during the grounding incident. No pollution to the environment was reported by the maritime officials.

The reason for grounding remains currently unknown. The vessel is currently moored in Tilbury until further orders.
