While cleaning cargo tanks, onboard a chemical tanker, three seafarers accidentally inhaled poisonous fumes.  One reported to have died and the other two were hospitalized.

It’s reported that the remains of the cargo reacted with cleaning solvent used by the three seafarers for cleaning the tanks and it might have resulted in toxic fumes emission aboard the Russian-flagged tanker.

The deceased 24-year crew member is reported to have died immediately due to a cardiac arrest, while the other two, aged 42 and 28, were transferred to a hospital in a serious health condition.

Fortunately the rest of the 13 Russian crew members aboard the vessel at the time of the incident were not affected.  The incidence is under investigation.
