The new ferry M/F “Bergfjord” was reportedly decommissioned based on an inspection report in May revealing a 40 millimeters long and two millimeters wide hole in her hull, through which water started entering the vessel.

Within minutes after leaving the shore the bilge alarm sounded and the damage came to light.  According to the vessel operator, the passengers were never in any danger.  It is not a critical situation, since the boat is divided into many zones.

“.. but one should not take risks when there is water ingress anywhere” emphasized the operator.

Steinar Mathisen, a company representative explained that the developer of the ferry port in Bergfjord forgot to remove a part of the structure when they built the ferry port.

Temporary repairs were carried out immediately after removing the steel.  But the company representative feels that this is now a matter for the construction firm’s insurance to handle.

  1. What nonsense is this “ferry decommissioned”? Do you know what decommissioning means? Don’t use words if you don’t know what they mean.
