123Carbon And ZERO44 Partner To Revolutionize Carbon Management In The Maritime Industry

9

In a major step towards maritime decarbonization, 123Carbon, a leading independent carbon insetting platform, has joined forces with ZERO44, an innovative SaaS startup specializing in CO₂ management for merchant ships. This partnership aims to empower shipowners, operators, and charterers with greater control over their carbon accounting, ensuring compliance with evolving environmental regulations while supporting sustainability and profitability goals.

Empowering the Shipping Industry with Carbon Transparency

The collaboration between 123Carbon and ZERO44 integrates both companies’ platforms to simplify the carbon accounting process. Through this integration, users can track vessel compliance in real-time, allocate specific fuel volumes for compliance or voluntary markets, and prevent double-counting of emissions.

ZERO44’s advanced forecasting tools allow shipping companies to predict future emissions and regulatory exposure, while 123Carbon’s registry platform manages the issuance and allocation of Environmental Attribute Certificates (EACs) across various transport modes. This unified system offers a seamless way to balance both mandatory regulatory requirements (like FuelEU Maritime and EU ETS) and voluntary carbon offset strategies, giving operators a holistic view of their carbon management.

Driving Sustainable and Profitable Decarbonization

This partnership arrives at a time when the maritime industry faces increasing pressure from frameworks such as the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII), FuelEU Maritime, and the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).

By combining their expertise, 123Carbon and ZERO44 are helping shipping companies not just comply with these frameworks but also turn sustainability into a competitive advantage. According to Jeroen Van Heiningen, Founder of 123Carbon, the collaboration will simplify compliance and unlock value across both voluntary and mandatory markets. Similarly, Frederike Hesse, Managing Director of ZERO44, emphasized that this is the first integrated solution combining regulatory obligations with voluntary carbon trading, giving companies full transparency and control over their carbon strategies.

The 123Carbon–ZERO44 partnership marks a milestone in maritime sustainability, offering a comprehensive, transparent, and efficient solution for managing carbon emissions. By aligning regulatory compliance with commercial and environmental objectives, the collaboration not only helps the industry move closer to net zero by 2050 but also sets a new benchmark for responsible and profitable decarbonization across the global shipping value chain.
