A luxury yacht valued at approximately $1 million met a dramatic fate just 15 minutes after its maiden voyage off the coast of Zonguldak in Ereğli, northern Turkey, reports New York Post.
The 85-foot vessel, named Dolce Vento, had only just been delivered from Istanbul when the incident occurred.
The Incident
Footage captured by onlookers shows the yacht being gently eased into the water before suddenly listing dangerously to one side and beginning to sink. The owner, captain, and two crew members leapt overboard and swam to safety—fortunately, all were uninjured.
Rescue and Response
Local authorities, including the Turkish Coast Guard and port officials, swiftly established a security perimeter around the sinking yacht and initiated recovery efforts at the scene. Shipyard representatives confirmed that technical inspections are underway to determine what went wrong.
Preliminary Theories
While the investigation is still ongoing, speculation has surfaced that stability issues, possibly stemming from miscalculated metacentric height—a key factor in a vessel’s balance—could have contributed to the rapid sinking.
This incident comes shortly after another maritime mishap in New York’s Sheepshead Bay, where a fishing boat carrying 11 people began sinking—though that situation fortunately ended with a successful rescue.
