Greek tanker player Prime Marine, led by Stathis Topouzoglou, has benefited from the current recovery by selling a number of LR tankers in the first quarter of the year, as reported by Splash247.

Transporting from Russia to India

According to sources, Gatik Ship Management, a rapidly expanding company in Mumbai, has purchased the River Shiner and Emerald Shiner, two ice-classed, 74,000 dwt tankers that were both constructed in 2005 at STX in South Korea.

Gatik became a shipowner in June of last year, joining a slew of other fresh faces transporting oil from Russia to India. It has since amassed a tanker fleet valued at more than $1.4 billion, making it the fastest-growing Indian shipowner in history.

Anonymous buyer

The 16-year-old Sand Shiner, which was built by New Times, was the third tanker of the same size that Prime Marine sold. The buyer of this ship is an unnamed Greek account.

There is no price listed for the sale of the three ships with scrubbers, but the online pricing tool VesselsValue predicts that the owner will have made over $70 million from the sale of the three ships, improving Prime Marine’s fleet average, which is currently 13 years old.
