  • MPC Container Ships ASA (MPCC) announced a strategic move to bolster their backlog and secure future earnings through vessel acquisitions and new charter agreements.
  • MPCC purchased two 3,500 TEU vessels for a total of USD 47.25 million.

Pre-agreed Charters

Both acquired vessels come with secured 36-month time charter contracts with a top-tier liner company, guaranteeing full recovery of the acquisition cost by the end of the charter period.

Additional Charters

MPCC signed agreements to charter out five 1,700 TEU and three 2,800 TEU vessels to the same liner company for 24-26 months at attractive rates.

Financial Impact

These agreements will contribute USD 155-195 million to the company’s backlog and significantly increase contract coverage:

  • 90% for remaining days in 2024
  • 64% in 2025
  • 34% in 2026

“While our core strategy remains focused on fleet renewal and optimization, we are capitalizing on the strong market conditions with these value-enhancing measures,” said MPCC’s Co-CEO and CFO, Moritz Fuhrmann. “These acquisitions and charters demonstrate our ability to secure profitable agreements with leading liners, enhancing revenue visibility and strengthening our long-term growth prospects.”

MPCC is a leading provider of container tonnage specializing in small to mid-sized vessels. They own and operate a fleet serving intra-regional trade lanes with fixed-rate charters.
