According to Offshore Energy, Singapore-based shipping company Pacific International Lines (PIL) has introduced the Kota Eagle and Kota Emerald, its first two 14,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container vessels. Built by Jiangnan Shipyard in China, these ships mark a major milestone in PIL’s fleet renewal program aimed at improving sustainability and efficiency.
Largest Vessels in PIL’s Fleet with Advanced Technology
The Kota Eagle and Kota Emerald, now the largest vessels in PIL’s fleet, are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including GTT’s Mark III LNG containment system and various energy-efficient features like optimized hull design and variable frequency drive motors. These advancements contribute to a high container intake and improved fuel efficiency, minimizing environmental impact.
AI and IoT-Driven Operational Efficiency
With the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), these vessels will enhance operational planning and monitoring. Managed through PIL’s Centre for Maritime Efficiency, these technologies allow for optimized routing and automated tasks, further increasing the ships’ productivity while reducing fuel consumption.
Expanding LNG-Powered Fleet for a Sustainable Future
As part of PIL’s fleet renewal and sustainability journey, these LNG dual-fuel vessels are the first of 13 on order. Alongside these 14,000 TEU vessels, PIL has plans for four 8,000 TEU and five 13,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel ships. This expansion aligns with the company’s goal of net zero emissions by 2050, ensuring that PIL remains future-focused and capable of meeting the evolving needs of the shipping industry.
