Brunvoll has secured a contract with VARD to deliver comprehensive propulsion and manoeuvring systems for two new Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs), currently under construction for an undisclosed international owner.
Enhanced Propulsion and Manoeuvring Capabilities
Each vessel will be outfitted with a suite of advanced Brunvoll systems, strategically arranged from aft to bow:
- Two azimuth propulsion thrusters: These provide primary propulsion and are equipped with Brunvoll’s latest energy-efficient DL1-nozzles, known as the “Dragless”. Unlike traditional nozzles, the DL1 maintains favourable hydrodynamic characteristics across a broader operating range, ensuring optimal efficiency even at transit speeds.
- One retractable azimuth thruster: This thruster offers enhanced manoeuvrability, particularly beneficial in confined spaces and during dynamic positioning operations.
- One tunnel thruster: Facilitates lateral movement and station-keeping, crucial for maintaining position during offshore operations.
- One combined retractable azimuth/tunnel thruster: A versatile solution that functions as both an azimuth thruster when deployed and a tunnel thruster when retracted, providing flexibility in various operational scenarios.
Additionally, the vessels will feature Brunvoll’s BruCon Propulsion and Thruster Control (PTC) system, ensuring precise and responsive control over all propulsion units.
Optimized Design for Offshore Operations
The vessels are based on VARD’s 4 19 design, with the following specifications:
- Length: 87.5 meters
- Beam: 19.5 meters
- Accommodation Capacity: 120 persons
This design emphasizes low fuel consumption, high operability, and onboard comfort, making it well-suited for the demanding tasks associated with offshore wind farm commissioning and maintenance.
Commitment to Sustainability
In line with global sustainability goals, the vessels are designed with environmental considerations in mind. The hybrid battery propulsion system allows for periods of zero-emission operation, provides additional peak power when required, and ensures an energy-efficient profile across all activities. Furthermore, the vessels are prepared for future methanol operation, aligning with the maritime industry’s transition towards greener technologies.
