- MISC Group has ordered two LNG dual-fuel Suezmax vessels, advancing its clean energy transition strategy.
- With this addition, MISC now achieves dual-fuel capability across all tanker sectors in which it operates.
- The Group has 21 newbuilds in its renewal pipeline, supporting long-term low-carbon goals.
As MISC Group reported, the company has taken a major step forward in its energy transition plans. Through its petroleum and product shipping arm AET, MISC has signed shipbuilding contracts for two LNG dual-fuel Suezmax tankers under long-term charter agreements. These new additions strengthen both operational performance and sustainable growth.
Expanding MISC’s Dual-Fuel Fleet
The two new Suezmax vessels will add to MISC’s growing dual-fuel fleet. With these orders, the Group now has dual-fuel capability in Aframaxes, Shuttle Tankers, Suezmaxes, and VLCCs. This reflects MISC’s commitment to cleaner, more efficient shipping solutions and supports the global effort to reduce carbon emissions in maritime operations.
Building a Dual-Fuel Pathway for the Future
In April 2024, MISC expanded into ammonia dual-fuel technology with a charter agreement for a series of Aframaxes. These combined steps create a clear pathway toward future zero-carbon operations, using LNG as a proven transitional fuel while preparing for ammonia-based vessels.
A Major Fleet Renewal Cycle Underway
MISC Group President & CEO Zahid Osman highlighted the scale of its fleet strategy. He stated that the Group currently operates 106 vessels, and with these new LNG dual-fuel Suezmaxes, a total of 21 newbuilds will join the fleet over the next 2–3 years. He described this as one of MISC’s most extensive renewal cycles, designed to strengthen long term cashflow and improve energy efficiency.
Strengthening Leadership in Low-Carbon Shipping
MISC believes its investments position the Group at the forefront of maritime innovation. These dual-fuel initiatives aim to keep MISC competitive while contributing strongly to global decarbonisation efforts. By combining commercial discipline with sustainable progress, MISC continues to build confidence among stakeholders, reinforce industry partnerships, and deliver long-term value across the maritime ecosystem.
