40 Crore Indian Currency Seized In Chittagong Port

On 20th September 2015, Sunday, based on a tip-off, customs officials of Bangladesh seized cartons containing Indian currency from the 20-foot MV Prosper docked in Chittagong Port’s Yard 8. Investigations reveal that the container was loaded onto MV Prosper at the Port of Jebel Ali, Dubai on 12th September 2015. The ship reached Chittagong on 16th September 2015.

165 packages were recovered from the cartons. The cartons were disguised and labelled as home appliances.The currency was hidden in a chamber of the packages. It is suspected that these currency notes are counterfeits. The officials, after nearly 8 hours of counting, declared that a sum of nearly Rs 27.2 million ( 40 Crore) was found. They also found 500 grams of gold ornaments in one of the boxes.

Five people, including the clearing and forwarding agent, have been arrested in this regard.
