$44.9 Million Worth Drug Busted Aboard Container Vessel at Dunkirk

Based on a report by Reuters, French authorities seized half a tonne of cocaine worth around 40 million euros ($44.9 million) in the northern port of Dunkirk.

What happened?

On May 14, Budget Minister Gerald Darmanin said in a statement that the drug worth $44.9 million was busted last month.

The narcotics were found on April 29, in a container ship carrying bananas that had traveled from the small South American nation of Suriname, and French prosecutors were carrying out further investigations, the statement added.

Investigation initiated

The French authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the origin of the consignment and to decide further course of action.
