Fire onboard a passenger vessel off the northeastern coast of New Zealand’s North Island near the town of Whakatane. Around 57 people onboard the vessel were saved as they jumped overboard to escape from the flames. Rescue teams and local boats hurried to save the crew as they pulled dozens of people from water.
Whakatane authorities reported that all passengers and crew have been rescued and accounted.
The boat reportedly belonged to White Island Tours. The cause of the fire and information on oil spill remains unknown.
