The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) announced that six foreign flagged ships remained under detention in UK ports during April 2022 after failing Port State Control (PSC) inspection.
To remind, inspections of foreign-flagged ships in UK ports are undertaken by surveyors from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. When a ship is found to be not in compliance with applicable convention requirements, a deficiency may be raised. If any of their deficiencies are so serious, they have to be rectified before departure, then the ship will be detained. All deficiencies should be rectified before departure.
Ships detained in April 2022
- SPIRIT OF BRITAIN: The Cyprus flagged vessel was detained on 11th April 2022 at Dover, found with 23 deficiencies with 6 grounds for detention. Eventually, this vessel was released on 22nd April 2022.
- DOCTOR STRANGE: The Antigua and Barbuda flagged vessel was detained on 13th April 2022 at King’s Lynn, found with 19 deficiencies with 8 grounds for detention. Eventually, this vessel was released on 22nd April 2022.
- MAYFAIR SPIRIT: The Malta flagged vessel was detained on 26th April 2022 at Port Talbot, found with 11 deficiencies with 2 grounds for detention. Eventually, the vessel was released on 29th April 2022.
- SUPER RUBY: The Marshall Islands flagged vessel was detained on 27th April 2022 at Immingham, found with 20 deficiencies with 4 grounds for detention. This vessel was still detained on 30th April 2022.
- BALMORALL: The Bahamas flagged vessel was detained on 28th April 2022 at North Shields, found with 8 deficiencies with 4 grounds for detention. Eventually, the vessel was released on 29th April 2022.
- BERENDINA HERMINA: The Panama flagged vessel was detained on 30th April 2022 at Hull, found with 25 deficiencies with 5 grounds for detention. Eventually, the vessel was still detained 30th April 2022.

- PRIDE OF KENT: The Cyprus flagged vessel was detained on 28th March 2022 at Dover, found with 47 deficiencies with 13 grounds for detention. This vessel was still detained 30th April 2022.
- POSEIDON: The Iceland flagged vessel was detained on 19th July 2018 at Hull, found with 10 deficiencies with 2 grounds for detention. This vessel was still detained on 30th April 2022.
- TECOIL POLARIS: The Russian Federation flagged vessel was detained on 6th June 2018 at Immingham, found with 27 deficiencies with 6 grounds for detentions. This vessel was still detained on 30th April 2022.
- CIEN PORCIENTO: The Sweden flagged vessel was detained on 4th March 2010, Lowestoft, found with 30 deficiencies including 7 grounds for detention. This vessel was still detained on 30th April 2022.
