Chicago witnesses yet another gun violence which had left 10 dead and more than 50 wounded.  Amari Brown, a 7 year old boy was one among the casualties.  According to police, the boy succumbed to a shot in his chest by a gunman, who was targeting his father, a well-known gang member.

The number of shooting incidents around the same period in 2014 was lesser when compared to the multiple shootings that have taken place since this Thursday.  According to the Chicago Tribune, in the previous year nearly 16 people were shot dead and more than 80 people were injured.

The worst scenario at the weekend was during the Independence Day celebrations, when 30 people were shot dead between 21:00 on Saturday and 5:00 on Sunday.  Apart from these incidents, a 17-year-old boy was gunned down while playing basketball and a 19-year-old boy was severely injured while rival gangs fought near Navy Pier.

These incidents have occurred despite 30% increase in police officers patrolling the city over the weekend.  The gun violence in Chicago has proved the city to be one of the most deadly in the US and their struggle to turn the tide of gun violence continues in the last several years.
