According to an article published in the Times Leader, Pennsylvania’s first alcoholic ice cream shop has made its way to Wilkes-Barre after a year of business on Luzerne Avenue in West Pittston,
What is it?
Boozy B’s, owned by business partners Autumn Eckert and Bianca Lupio, opened for business on June 20 in Midtown Village, and according to Lupio, business is buzzing.
“We’ve done really well here this week, there’s so much foot traffic around here,” Lupio said. “We’ve seen a lot of our old customers, and a whole lot of new ones.”
The Humble Beginning
Eckert and Lupio opened Boozy B’s in Lupio’s hometown of West Pittston in July 2019. Quickly, it became apparent that the upstart business had outgrown the small borough.
“West Pittston was a great starting point, but we always had it in our minds to come to downtown Wilkes-Barre,” Lupio said.
The License Struggle
The two business owners had plans to open up shop in Midtown Village as early as April, but the ongoing pandemic put a dash in that idea.
“The liquor board didn’t give us permission to open up until last weekend,” Lupio said. “We’ve had the space since January.”
Old Wine in New Bottle?
The shop offers a new twist on a classic treat, with flavors ranging from Coco Loco (coconut flavored ice cream infused with rum) to the shop’s newest, Fruity Booty (cereal ice cream with vodka, best served in a waffle dish).
Boozy B’s also offers a list of sorbets, vegan offerings and a wide array of alcohol-soaked toppings to add even more kick to your ice cream, handmade from scratch by Lupio and Eckert.
The Alcohol Draws
“It’s the alcohol that draws everyone in, but the ice cream is made from scratch and tastes delicious, too,” Lupio said.
4th Of July Treat
For this upcoming Fourth of July weekend, Boozy B’s has added holiday-themed cakes to the menu, which are available to order over the phone.
