A seafarer is facing charges for violating covid rules and swimming at the port from a bulk carrier ship, reports the Daily Mail UK.
What happened?
- A Vietnamese man, 37, has been charged with breaching quarantine directions.

- WA Police said the 37-year-old man was a crew member on a bulk carrier which berthed at the Albany Port, on the state’s southwest coast, on Thursday.
Ship Crews Not Permitted Ashore
It is alleged the Vietnamese national jumped into the water on Saturday, and swam ashore in contravention of border and maritime crew directions.
Crew of ships are not permitted ashore onto WA land under the emergency management quarantine directions.
Tests Negative for COVID
The man was found by police shortly before 7pm on Saturday at an Albany backpackers lodge.
He was tested for COVID-19, which was negative, and his health assessed.
Appearance In Court
The man was charged with failing to comply with a direction and will appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Sunday.
The man, who was a crew member on the ship, was allegedly found by police at an Albany backpacker’s lodge later that evening.
