Deltamarin Ltd and Aker Arctic Technology Inc have jointly developed a modern Aframax-size tanker concept for arctic use, focusing on safe operations.  Deltamarin Ltd is well known for its expertise in affordable energy efficient cargo vessels and Aker Arctic Technology Inc stars with a strong track record in Arctic vessels.

The Arctic Aframax tanker, intended for crude oil and oil product transports, is strengthened to ice class Polar Class 5 level capable of continuously breaking thicker than one-metre level ice.  She can operate longer on the Northern Sea Route during the extended summer months, and during the winter months in other sub-arctic sea areas such as the Baltic Sea or Sakhalin.  Deltamarin’s co-operation minimises the  building and operating costs of this special tanker.

Deltamarin’s Director of Ship Design Markku Miinala and Aker Arctic’s Project Manager Riku Kiili are excited about the amalgamation of the top know-how of both companies.

The best balance of open water performance with icebreaking capabilities is achieved by the new bow and hull shape of the vessel ensuring safety in operations in the arctic waters.  The Ice Load Monitoring System measures ice loads from the hull and apart from providing online support to the officers it will also help the ship by analysing the data and creating information for the optimal operations.  The vessel can also be fitted to run on LNG with dual fuel engines.  It can be enhanced to  two bow thrusters and shaft PTO/PTI (Power Take Off / Power Take In) systems.  The new Aker Arctic ARC Bridge Concept improves the visibility from the bridge in all directions with access and passages to command posts.
