- The UN Model Regulations for the Transport of Dangerous Goods were amended to determine that if the 2.5-Year Intermediate Inspection and Test is delayed.
- May be beyond the allowed 3-months after the specified date of expiry, the delayed test should be replaced with a 5-year Periodic Inspection and Test.
- The amendment is included in The IMDG Code 40-20, Chapter 6.7, Sub-section 6.7.2.19 which includes Tank Instructions T1-T23.
A recent press release made in the ITCO publications reveals about TG07 2.5 Year Intermediate Inspection and Test.
The IMDG Code provides for the following
- 5-Year Periodic Inspection and Test.
- 2.5-year Intermediate Inspection and Test that may be performed within 3-months of the specified date.
Consequential amendments
Consequential amendments will apply to Sub-sections 6.7.3.2 and 6.7.4.2 and include Tank Instructions T50 and T75 respectively.
The amendment will also enter National Regulations for the Transport of Dangerous Goods where the UN Model Regulations apply for UN Portable Tanks.
No change in the existing procedures
There is no change to the existing procedure to performing a 2.5-year Intermediate Inspection and Test if it is carried out within the allowed 3-months after the date
of expiry.
The amendment applies only to a UN Portable Tank where the intermediate test is delayed more than 3-months.
The procedure to follow
If the 2.5-Year Intermediate Inspection and Test is undertaken beyond 3-months of the date of expiry and as a consequence the test is replaced with a 5-Year Periodic Inspection and Test, the next test will be due after the fullterm of 2.5-years from the date of the test and the next 5-year test becomes due after the full term of 5- years.
There may be a benefit to replace a delayed 2.5-Year Test with a 5-Year Periodic Test and therefore, provide the fullterm validity of the test period before the next test is due.
