World’s First Battery & LNG-fueled Vessel Delivered

Developed by Libas, Norway’s Salt Ship Design, the world’s first hybrid purse seiner trawler, has been delivered to the pelagic fishing company Liegruppen Fiskeri on March 11, reports Creme Shipyard.

Eco-friendly vessel

Libas is the first of her kind on an environment-friendly scale. She is the World’s first hybrid Purse Seiner Trawler driven by LNG and Batteries. DNV-GL classed Libas carries the Norwegian Flag.

  • The 86,5 m long vessel has a 350 cum MAN Cyro LNG tank, 2.830 cum RSW tank capacity, and 500 kWh battery power.
  • The battery system is to be used specifically during peak shaving operations. Her main engine is 6.000 kW at 514 rpm MAN Machinery.

Purse seiner for trawling

Libas is equipped as a purse seiner and for both double and single trawling.

A trendsetter in her field, Libas is considered environmentally-friendly, safe, efficient, and comfortable, and thanks to her innovative design she won the 2018 NorFishing Innovation Award.
