US Navy(1775-2015) Celebrates 240 Years of Excellence

13th October marked the 240th birthday of US Navy

• From everyday small feats to undeniably heroic efforts, the accomplishments and achievements of America’s Navy are vast and significant.
• This same day in 1775 the Continental Congress met in Philadelphia and voted to outfit two sailing vessels –
  • the Andrew Doria and
  • the Cabot,         
• Since its birth, the Navy has been involved with more than ten major wars and countless battles.
• The Navy takes extra efforts to bring security, democracy and prosperity to the American people and to the international community.
• The American navy has expanded till date and today,  it’s a fleet of
  • 271 deployable ships
  • Over 3,700 operational aircraft
  • Over 328,000 active duty sailors
  • Over 110,000 reserve sailors
  • Nearly 200,000 civilian employees
• The Navy owns 36,000 acres and more than 6,750 buildings in the area.
• The Hampton Roads is home to approximately 108,000 Navy and Marine Corps personnel.
