Norway’s Kongsberg Maritime secured a contract to deliver a propulsion system and LNG engine for a new bulk carrier ordered by compatriot short sea shipping firm Seaworks, reports LNGPrime.
About the vessel design
Polarkonsult, the designer of the vessel, has awarded the contract to Kongsberg to deliver a comprehensive, integrated equipment and systems package.
Mechanical aspects
According to a statement by Kongsberg, the mechanical aspects of the integrated solution include steering and reduction gear, bow and stern thrusters, the rudder, a controllable pitch propeller system but also a Bergen gas main engine.
Electrical and digital
On the electrical and digital side, the delivery includes energy and power management systems, and an energy storage unit.
Monitoring and control
In addition, Kongsberg added it would provide an electro package and a K-Chief marine automation system for monitoring and control of all key vessel functions.
Battery pack
Besides LNG and LBG propulsion, the 77.50m long bulk carrier will also feature a battery pack of 924 kWh, according to Polarkonsult.
Delivery of the vessel
China’s Wuhu has already started building the LNG-powered vessel. The yard will deliver this new self-unloader bulk carrier in 2023.
