K Line Invests in Tidal Energy Project

”K” LINE and Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc have entered into a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with DP Energy, a renewable energy developer headquartered in Ireland, for the Uisce Tapa Tidal Energy project (hereinafter the Project) in Nova Scotia, Canada, says a press release published on their website.

In a first-of-its-kind project for Japanese companies, shipping company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (”K” LINE) and Chubu Electric Power Co. are investing in a renewable energy project planned for Nova Scotia, Canada.

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K-Line) is branching out into tidal energy. The K-Line project will be the first tidal energy project in which Japanese companies will participate overseas.

The Japanese shipowner is working with Chubu Electric Power and Ireland’s DP Energy to develop a tidal energy project in Nova Scotia, Canada.

K-line plans its first delivery by 2023

Three underwater turbine generators are planned to be installed in the Bay of Fundy, with the aim to start the operation of the first turbine in 2023. The project holds a 15-year power purchase agreement with Nova Scotia Power and is a recipient of an approximately C$30m ($24m) grant from Natural Resources Canada.
