In German city of Cologne more than 100 Women complained of sexual harassment on New Year’s Eve.  The co-ordinated sexual violence happened at the hands of gangs in the square outside Cologne’s main railway station.

Authorities described it as “unprecedented” the scale and nature of the latest rape and sexual assault allegations.  It’s believed that about 1,000 young men – many of North African or Arab appearance have arrived in large groups, with the specific intention of sexually harassing cologne women.

Figures show the majority of people carrying out sex attacks in Germany do not come from an immigrant background.  In two-thirds of cases, the perpetrator is known to the victim, says Ms Kopetzky from Cologne rape crisis centre.
